In the late 1980's parishioner Ray Havert saw a need that led him to start an organization to assist families and seniors struggling to make ends meet. Saddleback Community Outreach was formed in 1989 with the early support of our parish and a number of local charitable organizations. That organization has grown to be South County Outreach as it is known today. We encourage our parishioners to visit their website to see how you can help continue their fine works.
South County Outreach started as a food pantry feeding over 1500 families the first year of its existence. In 2016, South County Outreach distributed almost one million pounds of food and provided more than 55,000 services to 8,000 South Orange County residents.
It has since added a number of other services such as a 6-month housing stabilization program for homeless families in 17 South County Outreach owned condos, as well as, rental and utilities assitance and computer training to provide skills to earn a living. In order to fund the program and provide clothes for those in crisis, an Upscale Resale Thrift shop was created. Through donations, they provide school supplies to children in need.
