This ministry is dedicated to the memory of Mary Frances Houston, (2/10/35-9/19/23), a long time parishioner and devout Catholic who advocated for a mental health ministry for several years. The Saint Nicholas Mental Health and Wellness Ministry was born in May 2024.
About Our Ministry
Our ministry answers the call of Pope Francis who said in May 2024 “Ministering to those who suffer from mental illness is an essential part of the pastoral care of the Church.”
This ministry strives to provide education to all men, women, and teens. Through education we seek to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health. Many people and families dislike admitting they or a family member has a mental issue. They wonder “what will people think?”
Another important aspect to our ministry is providing resources to people. Many people do not know who to call or who to turn to when help is needed. We provide up-to-date resources at every meeting.
Our meetings are once a month, usually the first Tuesday evening. We meet in Room 201 of the parish center from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The topic is always printed in the bulletin the week or two before each meeting.
Please join us at a meeting. There is no charge. We operate on free-will donations.
At each meeting we provide coffee, tea and snacks.
It is a relaxing atmosphere despite the seriousness of the topics.
