All high school teens and junior
college are invited to attend any and ALL the events offered by this group.
If you are interested in on-going education, service opportunities, spiritual experiences, retreats, and social acitivities (a.k.a. FUN!) then this is the place for you.
Throughout the school year, we meet once a month on a Sunday night – sometimes we have a Bible Study, listen to a speaker, or enjoy a social evening together. We also have a 4 pm Teen Mass on the last Saturday of the months of September through April with dinner afterwards.
We schedule occasional activities throughout the year – Bowling, Movies, Beach Parties, Softball, the annual Youth Day at the Anaheim Convention Center in spring and our annual four-day Memorial Weekend Retreat in May.
In the Summer, some of the things we plan are trips to an amusement park, softball games with other local Catholic churches, All-Nite Movies in the parish hall, and bowling.
Dates of activities are listed in the bulletin and you can check this site for dates of upcoming activities and other news.
Dear Members of St. Nicholas Parish,
My name is Micah Olvera, and I have recently been blessed with the opportunity to serve you and the youth of your community as Confirmation Coordinator and Youth Minister. It is my humbling honor and privilege to be entrusted with so crucial a role, and it is one which, with our Lord’s help, I will strive to fulfill to the best of my abilities.
My own work and experience in Youth Ministry began when I was in high school, and it has remained a part of my life in some way or another ever since. I grew up as a member of Santiago de Compostela Parish in Lake Forest where I became a youth leader during my second year of confirmation preparation. I spent the remainder of my high school years serving that ministry by helping to plan, lead, and teach confirmation classes, retreats, and other various activities and programs offered by the Youth Ministry. It was also during this time that I was introduced to St. Nicholas’ Youth Ministry at the Summer Leadership Retreats which were jointly planned and attended by the Youth Ministries of both Parishes. After high school I attended Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, California and earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts. It was an education like no other and it provided me with the knowledge, tools, and experience necessary to see and understand truth and wisdom in the light of Catholic tradition. Upon returning home from college, I also returned to my work in youth ministry where I have spent much time in the past few years once again planning, leading, teaching, and writing for youth ministry activities as an adult volunteer and Catechist.
There are so many challenges facing our youth today, and it is our natural and Christian mission to provide them not only with practical skills and education, but also the spiritual and moral foundations, guidance, wisdom, and loving support of a faith-based community. These are the things which I have found to be most valuable while facing the challenges in my life, and so these are the things which I hope and pray every young person will be able to find in this ministry.
In light of this vision, to all the youth of this community, I say: All are welcome, this ministry is for you. Feel free to reach out any time with your thoughts, ideas, and questions. You are all in my prayers, and I look forward to meeting and working with each of you so that together we may help each other grow in faith and fellowship through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God Bless,
Micah D Olvera
